Technical and Production Manager

Technical and Production Manager at Colchester Arts Centre

Current role since 2021

Jobs include:

- Liaising with visiting shows and touring companies.

- Setting up, maintaining sound, lighting and staging systems.

- Scheduling casual and freelance technicians.

- Liaising with outside designers for productions in and outside the venue.

- Planning and completing outside events such as festivals and shows in other venues.

- Work with local theatre companies and charities to provide tech services.

- Operate sound and lighting desks.

- Organise and sometimes operated live streamed performances.

- Work with new and upcoming artists to tech their shows.

Equipment Includes:

Theatre Refit Post Refurbishment

Senior Technician

Refitting The Mercury Theatre post refurbishment in 2020-2021. 

This included:

- Servicing and reinstalling legacy equipment.

- Learning and installing new equipment.

- Cleaning and maintaining the theatre space back to its original condition.

- Installing theatre seating.

- Creating new plans and paperwork for all new patch panels and racks.

- Re-timing the theatres sound system to the new space.

- Getting quotes, ordering and installing new equipment.

- Building and running in power and data cables for legacy equipment.

Legacy and New Equipment includes:

- ETC Cue Light System

- Meyer Sound System

- ETC Gio

- ETC Ion

- Sennheiser G3

MAAF GET OUT

Senior Technician (Sound)

The taking down and apart of the technical infrastructure and site of the Mercury At Abbey Field venue (a temporary venue during The Mercury Theatres capital project).

Leading the sound department and then helping lead the entire team with the get out of MAAF.

Capturing Sound for TV/Film

Audio Technician

Capturing and editing sound for use in short films and promotional videos.

Working on projects such as:

- Global Football Group (promotional video outlining what the company did)

- Mercury Theatre (worked alongside film crews the capture sound for performances and promotional videos)

- Channel 4 (worked with the Audio Technician from Undateables to co-ordinate radio frequencies and capture sound from The Mercury Theatres special production of Cinderella at MAAF)

- Mersea Island Council (recorded and edited their public meetings)

Volunteered for students films such as:

- Women in Radio (documentary on the representation of women within radio)

- The Box (short film)

- The Sleepover (short film)

- Guilt (short film)

MAAF One Nighter Season

Senior Technician (Sound)

Leading the on site technical team for the entire one nighter and visiting company season at MAAF.

MAAF Oliver!

Senior Technician (Sound)

Leading the sound department for a co-production of Oliver! at Mercury at Abbey Field.

Show role of Sound No. 2 for a cast of 80 people, communicating with Sound No. 1 and leading Sound No. 3.

MAAF Cinderella

Senior Technician (Sound)

Leading the sound department for our annual panto at Mercury at Abbey Field.

Show role of Sound No. 2 for a cast of 26.

Mercury Theatre DECANT

Technician

During The Mercury Theatres Capital Project, the theatre needed to be stripped down so that the theatre could undergo redevelopment.

This involved stripping the theatre of all technical aspects, de-rigging installed speakers, data runs, stage rigging and masking.

MAAF FIT UP

Senior Technician (Sound)

Planning, preparing and then building of  the site and technical infrastructure of the Mercury At Abbey Field venue (a temporary venue during The Mercury Theatres capital project).

Leading the sound department to install all of the sound infrastructure, backstage, on stage and front of house.
